You may think of tutors are tools for those that have a lot of extra money or that have have children with learning disabilities. Though certainly some people can afford more help and children with learning problems stand to get the most from a tutor, these are people who can help any child with any academic challenge. After school tutoring programs are great ways for children who are struggling to get caught up and can help some children do things like study for college entry exams or even finals if they are worried about keeping their GPA up. Tutors do not have to be expensive either.

Some school districts have after school tutoring programs that are free. Do not assume so, but you can find some. Some districts simply cannot afford to have such a thing but some can. In some cases, students volunteer to help students at their grade level or lower with their studies if they have a career like teaching in mind. Your child may have to be having some difficulty to get into these programs, but not always. If you want to know if such a thing exists where your child goes to school, all you have to do is ask. Call your school districts main office for more information.

There are some after school tutoring programs that work with students on specific subjects. These may not be free and often are not. That does not mean that you cannot afford them though. There are many students that have problems with math and need help, but are doing fine in all other subjects. Some students have things like ADHD. This does not mean they cannot learn and in fact may be very smart. However, because of ADHD they may not learn as easily. Tutors can give them the extra push they need to understand complicated math or other subjects they struggle with each day.

You can also hire your own private after school tutoring programs that are not affiliated with your school. You can see about hiring someone to come on whatever schedule you think best and can afford to give your child one on one time when needed. You will probably pay by the hour but you can also make sure your child is excelling when deciding if you want to continue or not. Your local college may have undergrads that offer these services to make extra money at an inexpensive price level if others you find are just too expensive.

Do not forget that there are some after school tutoring programs that are set up to fit your child’s needs. These are not everywhere, but can be found in more urban areas. They may have a campus where you child can learn or they may come to your home. You will have to find out when you call. These are specially trained people that can help just about any student, including those with severe learning disabilities. If your child is struggling and you can afford this type of program, it could be the one of the best investments you can make in your child’s future.
